One more day

Se are in Shepardsville,Ky tonight. We stopped here as this is where we will stay when we come down here in July for the "Rally" We called Jack and Barb and they came and picked us up and we went to a Mexican Restaurant. It was good. Had Margaritas. They were pretty strong. But that was good. The reason we came back the way we did is I didn't want to mess with the Mountains. One road was closed because of landslide. So couldn't take that if we wanted to. We should be home tomorrow afternoon sometime. Not sure just what time we will get started. We have had good weather all the way home. Sunny and no rain. The good Lord has watched over us all the time we have been gone. Yes I caught a cold and lost my voice for a day. It is starting to come back now. Should be good by Easter Sunday. That's it for tonight Later Ron Thelma and Eli who I think is ready for his big house

Covington Ga

We are on our way home. We are at a campground in Covington Ga. It was the only one that was right off of I20. It is not the best but will work for one night. Tomorrow we leave here and go through Atlanta into Alabama and hit I65 and head north. I figure it will take us about 4 days. I need to check my mapping program. Thelma did two loads of laundry here. May try and do another load at the next park. That's about it for tonight. Not sure we will stay up very late. We are both tired and I am losing my voice. That is no fun. It"s over

Well This rally is over for another year. We had a ball of fun. I am tired tonight as I guess the feeling of it being over has sunk in. Tonight we had our parade of state's where each state here parades across the stage making all kind of noise. This afternoon the Indiana group went to Ryan's to eat That was good fellowship. Tomorrow we start home. Will probably take about 4 days.We are not going to rush as we are tired. Next years rally is in Canton Texas. We had planned on going to the free registration helps. That's about it for tonight. Later Ron Thelma and Eli

One day to go.

Tonight was the big night. We crowned our new Retiree King and Queen. They are from Michigan. We know them pretty well. They are a nice couple. They will do a fine job for our group. They also drew for a free registration for next year for those that signed up today. Well guess what Ole Ron and Thelma won that. So we got our check back that we had wrote. That was nice. Saved a little money. This morning we had a flea market and then had a little free time. I am ready for this to be over. My legs are getting a little tired. I guess that's about it for tonight. We have about three things to do tomorrow and then it's all over. Later all Ron Thelma and Eli.

Two Days to go

We have two more days to go. We have 265 units on the ground. Today was a busy day as I took pictures of all the activities and uploaded some to a new web site that I started. When I get them all uploaded will let everyone know with the blog. This evening we went to a steak house here in Summerville. Boy was it good. Thelma and I had shrimp and 8 oz steak. Brought part of the steak home. Two couples got a 51 oz steak. They had enough left over for at least two more meals. This evening they announced that a couple I talked too last week at a campground and gave them a membership folder came here to the grounds and signed up. What a suprize. I talked to them and told them what fun we had. They live here in Summerville. Another couple that just joined also live here and so they are going to try and start a club.Tomorrow we have a flea market and meal in the evening. Then the crowning of our retiree King and Queen. Then a ball after that. Well that's about it for tonight. Oh the elvis guy was terrible. Off key and didn't even look like him. Later Ron Thelma and Eli

Thursday, March 25, 2010

A long day

Well it is 10:45 and I am just doing the blog. Just got back from the program. Tonight was variety show night. This is when the members show their talent. It wasn't too bad. Sometimes you get people who I think don't have talent. you know how that goes. We had our group pictures taken this morning. Boy this guy knows how to run them through. Takes about 3 pictures and then moves the next group in. Then I took some pictures around the grounds at games while Thelma went with a friend of ours to the laundry. That is done for a least a week. Will see where we stop at next week on the way home if they have laundry facilities may do some then. We will leave here on Monday morning. This evening we had our first meal that is furnished. Had Creamed corn, green beans pulled pork, fried chicken potato salad Cole slaw, rolls banana pudding of some kind, some rice with gravy. Couldn't eat it all. Brought some chicken home for Eli. Tomorrow night think we are going to a steak house with some friend. Sunday our Indiana group is going to Ryan's as a group. Should be fun. Well that's about it for tonight. Later all Ron Thelma and Eli

A busy day

Today was a busy day. I started out this morning at 8:00 and took pictures of the Chairman of this rally. I didn't get all of them so will try again tomorrow morning. Then I came back to the trailer and got Thelma and we ate breakfast at the Lions club food stand. It was good. They are having a lot of business. That is good as all profit goes to the things that they do. Then I got a shower and went and took pictures of some seminars and games Tonight we had some good entertainment. I didn't think it was as good as last night but that's just my opinion. Tomorrow morning we have our group pictures taken by a professional. Not sure what else is going on in the afternoon. We have a meal at 5:00 and the evening entertainment is a variety show by the members. Some are good and some ? That's about it for tonight The pictures of this probably won't be on till after the rally is over. I might download some here if the wifi is working. They will be on a different Picasa site as I started one to use just for FCRV. Later all Ron Thelma and Eli

Short one tonight.

This will be kinda short It is almost 11 and I just got the pictures loaded on the puter that I took tonight. I also did the comment on most of them. The pictures I am taking are for the international retiree rally not the Indiana one. That is Brown
county. No we did not get pulled out there. It was at Sadella Mo for the escapade that we went to. We had some good entertainment tonight. I need to get up early in the morning and go to a meeting and get pictures of all the chairman. That's about it tonight. We had a great day. Sunny a little windy but at least it was dry. Later Ron Thelma and Eli

Better Day

At least it didn't rain. It was cool and windy but at least we stayed dry. I think about all of the campers are in. We have about 253 rigs on the grounds. This is a fairground. I don't think it is set up the best for camping. They are supposed to have the campvention here in 2011. Not sure where they are going to put 400-500 units in here with electric. Maybe they will put up a lot of temporary hookups. We went into town tonight with a couple of friends and went to the slippery fingers. BBQ ribs, chicken, and pulled pork. This is what I ordered and brought home the chicken and pork. We have lunch for tomorrow. Thelma is already in bed and I am about ready also. After being out in the wind all day it really makes you sleepy. Tomorrow the rally starts officially. Now my job as photographer starts. I started with some today but now it is game on. Not much else new for now. So later all Ron Thelma and Eli

Wet and Rainy Ladson

We got here about 9:20 this morning. Got up at Six and on the road by 7. Stopped at Mickey D's for breakfast. We had a good trip Not much traffic. We got set up and then started helping with the parking. Then came the rain. I had on a rain coat but my pants got wet as did my shoes. Finally about 4:30 came in and changed into dry clothes. This evening the workers registered and we had a short church service. The chaplain is a retired Lutheran Minister. NotMS. He is really good. Tomorrow we start parking at 8:00. So have to get up early again. That is about it for tonight I want to take a shower and probably go to bed early. After being outside all afternoon I am tired. Later all Ron Thelma and Eli

Moving Tomorrow

In the morning we will be going to Ladson, SC for our retiree rally. We are helping with parking so will get an early start from here. Hopefully by 7:00. That should get us to Ladson around 9:30 or so. We will stop at a Mickey D's for breakfast. We checked the place today and there is a big parking lot next door that we can pull in and then get back on the road. Tonight we had our root beer floats and our meeting. We talked for a little while and then came back. We have pretty much every thing ready to go in the morning. I need to get the puter packed away after I get done here and then go to bed. Setting the alarm for 6. That is early for us.
We went to a
Texas roadhouse tonight for supper. It was really good. Good food and a good waiter who was originally from Mich. That's about it for tonight Later all Ron Thelma and Eli

Another day shot

Well another day has gone already. We only have one more full day here. We will do laundry in the morning. Then might go to the board meeting for FCRV. this morning Thelma and I went out for breakfast and then went to 2 flea markets. Didn't find one flea. I did buy a couple of mats one for in the camper and one outside the door that says welcome to our home away from home. They show a fifth wheel. One for seven or two for ten. So I got two. This evening we had a Lazania dinner. Everybody brought salads or desserts. Some of the people from the board meeting came and joined in. This was put on by the YARS group.
Then we had karaoke after that. It was pretty good.

We followed the house for about 20-30 min. It seemed like an hour. The Elvis was pretty good. He sounded a lot like Elvis. Tomorrow night we have our business meeting for Yars and then Sunday morning we go to Ladson for our Retiree rally. We will leave early as we need to get there to help with parking. That's about it for tonight Later all Ron Thelma and Eli

Thursday, March 18, 2010

Here are two pictures. One is the house we were following on the way here. You can see how it took up both lanes. The other one is 3 dogs that were playing on the beach and water. Some lady that had two of the dogs threw a stick in the ocean and they went after it It was really cute to watch them Today was a bueatiful day. This evening we went with another couple to the Legends in Concert. They were impersonators. Elvis, Marylin Monroe, The Temptations George strait, and Rod Stewert. Didn't enjoy him that much as don't know his songs. They were all good. It lasted just a little over two hours. Got home about 10:30. Tomorrow I will try and put up the rest of the pictures I also did a small video of the ocean. Now I have them from Al, Fl and now SC Thats about it for tonight Later all Ron Thelma and Eli

Myrtle Beach SC

We arrived here in Myrtle Beach this afternoon about 12:40. Took a little longer that we expected. Coming on 17 Business the traffic slowed way down and here comes this cottage thing with a porch on it pulling onto the highway. It was on a semi trailer and took up both lanes. We went about 15 to 20 mph. I took a couple of pictures and will try and put them on tomorrow night. Tonight we had a snack get together and some of them played games. We sat around for a while and then came back to the trailer. Hope it warms up a little, It rained here tonight for a bit while we were in the building. Tomorrow morning we have a pancake and sausage breakfast. Then the rest of the day we are free. Trying to see what show to we want to go to. I looked at one but it was $$$$$$. So that is probably out of the question. We did not get to see the ocean on the way here. It was just a little to our right; But here at the campground it is just over the sand dune. Hope to get some pictures tomorrow. That's about it for tonight. Later all Ron Thelma and Eli.

Laundry Day Again

Today we did laundry again. We had two more loads to do. Got that done this morning and then just messed around. Some folks from FCRV are here. One couple is the head of the parking committee that we are going to help. They are going in on Thurs or Fri to the fairgrounds. We will go in on Sunday morning. There is two other couples that are here and going to the Yars rally. We are figuring on leaving about 10:00 in the morning and getting to Myrtle beach about 12:00 or 12:30. It is just about 100 miles give or take a few. It should be a neat drive as I think part of US 17 is along the ocean. Hope we can see it. We went to a place called Bessingers BBQ. Thelma had chicken sandwich and I had a pulled pork Sandwich. You add whatever BBQ sauce yo want on it. Am getting ready to take a shower so I am ready in the morning. Thelma is watching Are you smarter than a fifth grader. The lady on here is a teacher and got one answer right. First grade question. Boy that's part of the problem with our children here. Okay off the soapbox for now. That's about it for tonight. Later Ron Thelma and Eli

Monday, March 15, 2010

Today we went to the Aircraft Carrier USS Yorktown. She is 888 ft long had a crew of 380 officers and 3088 men. And an air group of 90 planes. Here is a link to the pictures I took. There is also a sub there to tour The USS Clamagore. A 322 ft diesel powered sub. This one is bigger than the one I saw in Mobile Al. I did not see all the ship. It is two big and Thelma could not walk it all. She saw the flight deck and hanger deck. The flight deck is really big. I think the newer ones are bigger yet. I hope to come back to this area in another year as our Campvention in 2011 is at Ladson where the retiree rally is this year. A odd thing is I was talking to the neighbors next to us and the two guys married sisters that lived here in Charleston and they both served in the Navy. The one man thought that being on a sub would be neat so voluntered. Suring training they take you out for a short cruise. He was on the Clamagore. There is supposed to be a Destroyer here and a coast guard cutter. Both are being refurbished. It was a long day. We were glad to get home. Thats about it for tonight. Later Ron Thelma and Eli

No we don't need any more animals. One is enough that's Eli says.

Charleston, SC

We are in a campground near Charleston SC. It is a PPA. Not one of the best. They had a bunch of rain here Fri and it shows. The ground is really wet in a lot of places. Cell service is not the best either. Thelma is doing laundry and I am on the WiFi here by the laundry. The campground has wifi but not sure if I am on it or not. Good signal. Tomorrow we are going to the USS Yorktown if it doesn't rain. We had a good trip today. Only one area that had construction and that wasn't too bad. 'We will be here till Wed morning and then head to Myrtle Beach for 4 days. Our YaRs rally and Board meeting. We have a train track not very far away and reminds me of Bixler Lake. That's about it for today. Later Ron Thelma and Eli

Tybee Island

Today we drove to Tybee Island to see the light house.

Here is the lighthouse and keepers house. At one time there was 3 keepers as they had to go up every four hours to put kerosene in the burner. It is 177 steps up. I did not make it all the way. I got to 100 steps and my legs were starting to shake so deceided to go back down. I guess I should have taken more time at first and maybe I could have made it. I think the view would be really good. I uploaded the pictures here. We have decided that we will try and come back to this area in another year. Our campvention will be in SC in 2011. So will try and come down this way early and do more sightseeing. Tomorrow we will move to a campground at Charleston,SC and do some sightseeing there. I want to see the aircraft carrier there and who knows what else. We will leave there on Wed morning and go to Myrtle beach for a rally and then on Sun Morning we go to Ladsen, SC for the retiree rally. Will be there till the following Mon and then head home. We have sure had a good time this winter even if the weather did not cooperate all the time. At least I didn't have to shovel snow. I guess that is about all for tonight. Have to move the clocks forward tonight. Oh one other thing my Boilermakers got trounced this afternoon. We did watch it all. Didn't watch it in the beginning and don't know what took place but it was bad.

Pictures uploaded

Okay I have the pictures from Stephen Foster uploaded. There is 3 videos that I recorded of the carillon playing. Here is the link. We are at Savannah oaks Campground Went to a Shoneys tonight for supper. They had a seafood buffet with crab legs frog legs, shrimp, fish, mac and cheese and some other stuff. Thelma just got a shrimp basket as she has not felt well the last couple of days. Feels better tonight. Not sure what we are going to do tomorrow. Might run out to Tybie island and the lighthouse. Will let you know what we did tomorrow. We had a pretty good trip today. It was a little foggy this morning but cleared up a little, We did not have sun at all on the trip. It finally came out after we got set up. It just rained a little bit here now. Not much. We have Cable TV and WiFi. Boy is that nice. That's about it for tonight Later all Ron Thelma and Eli
We will start back north on the last Monday of March.

Thursday, March 11, 2010

Here is a picture that I took of a Camilla at the park. I have some more to upload. They were scattered on the grounds around the Carillon. We are moving tomorrow to a campground by Savannah Ga. We will have wifi and cable.Yahoo. We only get a couple of PBS stations here at this park. I know now why people have satellite. We went to a town west of here and went to a Pizza hut for lunch. Got in just in time for the buffet. Just what we needed. We have only had pizza one time since we left Fort Wayne. Sure wish we could find a place like the Pizza Shack by the tracks in Tipton. We got to listen to the carillon at 4 again today. We were not back before that. They play 3 songs at a time. They can also have someone play it by manual if they want. Sure would like to see that. This would be a good place to spend a few more days. We need to get moving up the coast to Myrtle Beach for a mini rally. Guess that is all for tonight. Will probably post the pictures on the web site tomorrow night. Later all Ron Thelma and Eli

Wednesday, March 10, 2010

White Springs, Fl

We made it to Stephen Foster state park around 2;00 this afternoon. They have a carillon here that plays Stephen Foster music 4 times a day. We caught the 4:00 songs. today. Tomorrow will try and hear some more. I took my camera and did a couple of videos and recorded the songs. I could only get one of them to upload tonight. Not sure why the other two wouldn't. Will try again tomorrow sometime. We went to a restaurant here tonight. i had catfish fingers. Thelma had shrimp I brought part back with me. We will split it tomorrow for supper. Guess that's about it for tonight. Later all Ron Thelma and Eli

PS the weather was bueatiful all the way. Had no rain. It was a little cool this morning when we hooked up. but the drive over here was great. Sunny and 79

Ready to move

Tomorrow we head east about 250 miles to Stephen Foster State Park. We will try and get out of here early as it is supposed to rain. Might have to hook up in the rain. I got everything put away today so all I need to do is raise the rear jacks and put the power cord away. Hook up the truck. WILL TRY AND GET UP AT six. We went out with Jack and Barb for Mexican tonight. It was good They had two Margaritas for the price of one and they were big. Thelma could not drink all of hers. Guess that's about it for tonight Tomorrow is another day. Later all Ron Thelma and Eli

Back to the Eglin museum

This afternoon Jack and I went back to the Eglin Armament Museum. This was very interesting. showed the progression of different armament from WW 1 to now. Even small arms weapons. I took some more pictures and will get them uploaded in the next few day's I hope. I did not take as many inside as some of the stuff is behind glass and doesn't take good photos. Tomorrow we are doing laundry and then leaving here a day early on Wed and heading to Stephen Foster SP. Jack and Barb are leaving also so we decided to leave a day early and go to the next stop. It supposed to rain here Wed. So might have fun getting out of here. I hate hooking up in the rain. Tomorrow after we get back will put the awning away and the lights and water hoses. Will run off water tank for one night. That will help if it is raining in the morning. Well that's about it for tonight Later all Ron Thelma and Eli

Sunday Church and Brunch

This morning we went to church with Jack and Barb and then came home here and let Eli out. About 10:30 we picked them up and went to a restaurant on the bay and had brunch. It was good. A little expensive but really good. They made omelets from scratch and they were good Had a couple of different type salads Biscuit and Gravy. Potatoes. Bacon, Sausage And deserts. Some kind of pecan pie with chocolate in it. Oh so sweet. Then key lime pie. Looked at a few of the boats in the marina and then stopped at a couple of goodwill stores. In the afternoon Thelma and I went to a parking lot where there is wifi and I uploaded some more pictures and videos. So go to the picture sight and look for the videos. Two of them are from here last week at the beach. It was really windy and high waves. Also some from Pensacola and Eglin air field museum here. Guess that's about it for tonight. Later all Ron Thelma and Eli

A nice sunny day.

Today was a nice sunny day. This morning after we took showers we went and found a station that had diesel fuel. There doesn't seem to be as many here as some places. This was supposed to be the cheapest in town. After that we went to a Sam's club. Put the address in the GPS and Jill told us where to go. She is so nice about that. expect when you make a wrong turn. We got some paper plates and a few other things. Membership was up for renewal too so paid that.. Jack and Barb came over later in the afternoon and said they were starting a fire to cook hot dogs on. Boy that sounded good so we got some dogs and buns and went down for cookout. They really tasted good. Sat around the fire till about 8 and then came back. It just seems to get too cold to sit around long. It says it is 45 here but it still feels cooler than that. Tomorrow morning is church at 8:00. We have been going on Sat evening at 7 so that will be a change. Need to set the alarm. I made reservations today for Stephen Foster State Park about 250 miles away for next Thursday. We will stay there one night. They have a carillon that plays 4 times a day Stephen Foster music. It is on the Suwanee river. That should be interesting. We would like to stay a bit longer there but the campground will be full on the weekend and we need to get to South Carolina That's about it for tonight Later all Ron Thelma and Eli

Working day.

Today I finally got all our lights out and on the awning. Also put up a new outside light that I have had for about6 months. Got it last Sept. at a good SAM rally. It is a motion detector type or can be turned on and left on. I have been wanting to put it up since we left for warm weather. Ha. Today was a pretty good day. We went to Mickey D's this morning and then to the grocery and got a few things. Also some ice for the beer and pop. Haven't drank that much since it has been cool. Not sure what we are going to do tomorrow. I need to find a place with diesel fuel and get the tank filled. Might check that out tomorrow. We sat around a campfire with Jack and Barb tonight. Just like all times. We came back about 8:00 as it was getting cool. That's about it for tonight. We needed a day of rest after yesterday. Not as young as we used to be. Later Ron Thelma and Eli

Lamberts and Pensacola Naval Museum

Well we had a long day We left at nine this morning and got back at about 7:00 this evening. Here is a picture of Thelma in front on one of the blue angels planes hanging in the building. There is 3 of them here. We saw two IMAX movies while here. One was a bunch of airplanes doing war games. That was really neat. We went to Lamberts first and brought a bunch back. Eli will like tomorrow when he gets chicken. Thelma got the grilled chicken breasts and I got the regular fried chicken. We each have two breasts apiece to eat. Will all the passarounds they give you makes you full before you can eat your regular meal. I did not get any pictures uploaded today. Tomorrow we will get that done. Also need to get some ice. Tomorrow I also want to get my regular lights on the awning so we have a little more light as this campground is so dark. Can't thing of anything else so will end tonight with seya.. Later Ron Thelma and Eli.

Busy Day

This morning we did two more loads of laundry. All dark. Since it has been so cold we have worn jeans and sweatshirts so have more dark loads. The one washer did not spin out right so the clothes were a little wet. It took a long time to get them halfway dry. Some are hanging on the line in back. In the afternoon Jack and I went over to Eglin armament museum. We walked around and looked at all the planes. Then we went inside. They were closing at 4:30 so we will go back and see the inside. It will take awille to do that. This evening we went to Lenten services here at St Paul's church elca. Good sermon. We will go Sunday there also. 8:00 services. They don't have a Sat night one. Tomorrow we are going to Foley to Lamberts restaurant. It will be a long drive but Jack and Barb want to go as they have never been to one. Eli will be mad when we get back. Guess that's about it for tonight. Later all. Will try and get pictures up one of these days. Ron Thelma and Eli

Rainy night cold morning

We got 2 inches of rain last night. Sometimes it rained hard and then let up to a light rain. I don't mind the light rain It puts me to sleep. This morning we did laundry. It was cold as the washers and dryers are in the open. They are covered by a roof but no doors or anything. The wind was blowing pretty good. After lunch we went with Jack and Barb who are going to be here all the time we are. That is why we came here. From here they are going to leave for home. Messed that up. We drove to Destin Fl and Ft Walton Beach. I we stopped at a state park and I took some video of the waves. Will try and get them downloaded tomorrow sometime. The waves were really coming in. Pretty high.
The sub I toured was the USS Drum. I don't have any statistics on it. The Alabama has 9 16in/45cal Guns 3 turrets accurate to 21 miles. 20 %in/38 cal guns 10 Mounts 48 40mm guns 12 mounts 52 20mm guns Max speed 28 knots[32mph] Horsepower 130,000 Range 15,000 Nautical Miles at 15 knots. I am not sure that I saw everything on the ship. Did not see engines at all but maybe you can't. I looked on the guide that they give you and did not find anything on it about the engines. Tomorrow we are going to do some more laundry as they only have to washers and dryers. Not sure what we will do in the afternoon. Will probably try and find wifi so I can upload the pictures. Have two videos to upload too. That's about it for tonight Later all Ron Thelma and Eli

Florida

Well we made it to Florida. Got here about 1:45. Nice big site. A little hard to get into as I had to back in on my blind side. I still don't like doing that after all these years. Jack and Barb came in right behind us. They came over right after we got parked so Jack and I had a beer and we talked for awhile and then they left and we finished getting set up. Got the awning out and tied down. Just got back to the trailer from a campfire that got cut short as it is raining. Jack brought us back to the camper. It is raining pretty hard. Not sure what we are doing tomorrow. Probably some laundry as the weather is not predicted to be that nice tomorrow. The rest of the week is supposed to be really nice. We had a good trip over here from Alabama. The roads were good. We grilled hamburgers for supper tonight. That is the first we have used it since we have been south. This is a pretty small campground compared to the one we left Think about 40 sites here. I need to make a correction on the men on the Alabama. It only had 2500 men. It is 680 ft in length. Registered at 35,000 tons. assigned crew was 127 officers and 2205 men.She earned 9 battle stars and shot down 22 enemy planes during WW II. Will put more statistics on tomorrows blog. Later all Ron Thelma and Eli
