Moving tomorrow

Tomorrow morning we move about 20 miles down the road. It is not that far. We will bet moved just before the cold spell happens. They are now saying down into the 20s maybe at night and 30 to low 40s during the day. That is cold. I don't know what it will do to the orange groves down here if it gets too cold. We got almost everything put away today. I emptied the holding tanks tonight The guy from the campground asked me why we were leaving I didn't tell him we were at the wrong Rollin homes. It hasn't been bad here and if Sarah wasn't at the other one I don't know if we would move or not. We will be a little bit farther west from most of the stuff but not that far. Boy I sure don't envy you up north. Sounds like a bad one coming. Guess we picked a good year to come down here. It is supposed to warm up again by Sat and Sun is supposed to be up in the 70s. If you want to know what our weather is look up Mission TX. That is the town we are moving to tomorrow. Linda asked what sky med is http://www.skymed.com/  Here is the link for it. I hope we never need it but if something happens especially to me we will be okay. They would make sure everyone gets home and the trailer and truck too. We will have it for two years and then decide if we need it. If we didn't go so far away  I don't think we would get it. Will go out for breakfast it the morning first thing and then come back and get hooked up. That's about it for tonight.  Later All Ron Thelma and Eli who likes this weather. No snow he says

Well laid plans not

I had said yesterday that we might got to the light house. That did not happen. I had the alarm set for 7 It went off but Thelma did not budge and neither did Eli. They both just laid there so I figured might just as well lay back down. We got up around 9 and went down the road to Martha's for breakfast. Then came back and started to put some things away. We need to finish in the morning for some of the other stuff. This afternoon we set outside with the neighbors and chatted. Thelma made supper we had turkey sausage  and sauerkraut. It was good. Some baked apples  and red beets. Finished them off. They were from an Amish place by New Haven. So we will go to the lighthouse after we move. Not that much farther than from here. It got up to 85 here this afternoon. But were gonna pay for it this next week. They have freeze warnings up for the area just north of us and 40-50 highs here. But after a couple of days it will warm up again.  Better than snow.  Guess that's about it for tonight  Later all Ron Thelma and Eli

Two more days here

We have two more days here. Then move. Tomorrow we are going to try and go to Port Isabel. They have a lighthouse there. Also will probably go to South Padre Island. After we move we want to go back down that way and go to the zoo at Harlingin. Also there is a statue of Iwo Jima at the Harlingin Airport I want to see. They say the one in DC is modeled after this one.  We went to the flea market down the road a little Got just a couple of things. Tonight we went to church and then Walmart after that. Thelma fixed Tilapia for supper. Pretty good. She got some fish seasoning at the market and used that. Made it taste pretty good. I could have ate another piece. Well guess that's it for tonight. Later all Ron Thelma and Eli

What to say

Well today we didn't do much. We had a couple come here and talk about Sky Med. We have signed up for it. At least for 2 yrs. They had Pizza Hut pizza for lunch. Was pretty good. After that Thelma did laundry. Again.  Earlier I had taken the truck down to put some air in one tire. Not sure if it is leaking or what. Will have  to watch it closely. We leave here next Tuesday to move to another campground. It is the one that we should have gone to first. It is called Rollin homes like this one. The lady there is originally from Fort Wayne. She worked with Bob Gurney at Johnny Appleseed campground. She manages this one. We are still checking out some campgrounds around here. Looking to see where we would stay if we come down here again. Depends on where the retiree rally is in 2 yrs. We have enjoyed our stay here It hasn't been to bad. They could use some work on some of the things. The WI fi has been good most of the time. I use the air card for part of my puter usage like banking and private emails. We are talking of going to South Padre Island on Sun. Need to get up early if we want to do that. It is a pretty good drive. They have a light house there and a few other things in that area. We also want to do the zoo at Harlingin Probably in Feb.  Guess that's about it for tonight later all Ron Thelma and Eli

Anniversary day

Today was the anniversary for us. Boy 49 seems like a long time. How young were we then. We went to Logan's steak house for supper. I had ground sirloin and Thelma had  Tilapia. It was pretty good. Earlier in the day we went to a dealer to pick up the knife safe. That is just a holder to put knives in. It will hang on the wall. Also got some rubber bushings for the stove grate. One was worn out so got a four pack. Also bought some lube for slide out gears. They are squeaking. Then went to HEB the grocery down here it is closer than Wally world. Then to Walgreen's.  Guess that's about it for tonight. I look at the weather back home and glad we are down here. Later all Ron Thelma and Eli

A relaxing day

Didn't do much today. We had an appreciation dinner in the club house tonight  Brats potato salad , Cole slaw chips and brownies. Was pretty good. They also had a guy that played the guitar using a computer for his accompaniment. Other than that we just stayed around here. Tomorrow we go to a RV dealer to pick up a knife safe. We ordered it last weekend when we went to the show the dealer had. They had Heartland trailers. Saw some pretty nice ones. Lot of money. I wish I could afford to tell them I want this and that in a trailer. There were some plans that we liked certain areas of  but not all of it. We are also going to grocery and Walgreen's. Fri they are having someone here from Sky Med They are furnishing Pizza. and drinks I think. Thelma and I will probably go to Logan's tomorrow night for our anniversary. 49 yrs. Next year will be the golden one. Guess that's about it for tonight  Oh Bob Thelma said that she likes Bandidos better too. There is a Mexican restaurant down the road a ways and some people said it is good. So we will try and hit that before we move to another campground.  Later all Ron Thelma and Eli

Missed last night

I got the pictures ready to put on last night and then forgot to do the blog. Oh well. Yesterday we did not do much except one load of laundry. Today we went for a FCRV valley wide luncheon. It was a buffet at Harold's country kitchen. They had a variety of food. Chicken and brisket was on the menu. The brisket was really good. Could cut it with a fork. Tonight Thelma and I went to a restaurant I got a Mexican plate. It was not all that good. Not very spicy. Told Thelma we had to go to a real Mexican  restaurant. She had taco salad and it was bland too. No spices. Tomorrow night they have an appreciation dinner here at the campground. Not sure what we will have.  I am going to post some pictures of the birds we saw Sunday
I wish I had a bigger zoom lens. Saw some guys with looked like 1000 zoom. If I hit the lottery I will get me one. The first one is a Vermilion Flycatcher, Then a great heron. We think. Didn;t have a book to write in when we took the tour. The one that fits right in with the wood is a common pauraque. It is a night bird. It lay  there  the whole time we stood and took pictures. Not sure if it was sleeping or just so used to people. We will do another state park next month when we move to Mission. Guess that's it for tonight. Later all

A birding day

This morning Thelma and I went to Embassy Suites for brunch. We had a coupon for buy  one  and two drinks and get the second brunch free. Good thing we had the coupon. It was expensive. Then we came back and changed clothes to go back to the State Park where we went on a tram. Electric 8 seater golf cart. They had two of them. We saw quite a few birds and one alligator. It was really interesting as the guide explained a lot about the area and how part of it flooded when on of the hurricanes sent a bunch of rain to the area. Tomorrow I will put pictures on . Didn't get them on tonight Tomorrow is laundry day so will do that while Thelma does laundry. Yes Bob it was at casa de sol. It was pretty good. Tomorrow they have one here at this campground. Tonight they had cake and ice cream for birthdays and anniversaries. Thought maybe they would ask how long you had been married but they didn't Guess that's about it for tonight. So did your team win today. I didn't really care. Saw the end of the first game and Thelma had the other one for a while but didn't hear who won.  Later all Ron Thelma and Eli

Another good day

Today was a cool day. The furnace ran last night. Not sure just how low it got but tonight is supposed to be in the high 30 About  up to the 60s tomorrow. Today we went to a park just down the road about 11:30 and had lunch and then stayed for the jam session. This is where a bunch of different guy play guitars and people sing. They even had one guy play an accordion. it is one of those that is electric. Not like I had. We were they about 4 hrs. They played about 2 and half hours. We went a couple of weeks ago and decided to go again. After we move we will not go here as it will be to far. I'm sure there are others in the area where we are going. Think tomorrow we are going to a RV dealer that has an open house. Just curious to see what they have. Not the Montana dealer. Think he has cedar creek and maybe Cardinals. Well that's about it for tonight  Talked to Gary and today was his last day at the place he worked  His boss and another guy took he and Lisa out to dinner tonight. That was nice of them.  Okay  Later  all Ron Thelma and Eli who is standing on my lap while Thelma changes the bed sheets. That is another story

World Birding center

Today we went to Estero Llano Grande State Park. This is part of the world birding center. I has about 5 or 6 places in this birding center We spent about 4 or so hours there. Wasn't as much activity as we had hoped. We will probably go back again in Feb sometime as that is when the butterflies will be here. We are going on Sunday and take a tram tour where you have a guide and they take you around on an electric cart about 8 seater. I took few pictures Here are some of them
This is a chachalacas. Only weigh about a lb. Not much meat there

This is a Golden Fronted wood pecker. We bought a pamphlet that will tell us what birds they are. Thelma wrote down what we saw.  When we move to mission there is another state park there that we will go to. I could get into this  Well that's about it for tonight. It is really windy here. Gonna get cool to 39 Fri night they are saying.  Later all Ron Thelma and Eli

Laundry Day Again

Boy we must be the dirtiest people around. Thelma did 4 loads again today. Since we were waiting around for a ups delivery we didn't want to go anywhere. I had not put our lot number on when I ordered the book. They wouldn't just deliver it to the office the other day Today I saw the truck so run out he had taken it to the office. Someone was there. I got it from them. I would have thought the driver would have taken it to the trailer where the manager stays but no. As for trailers Paul asked if we some thing we liked better. We looked at a couple of mobile suites and elite suites. Nice I like a lot of things on them but they are $$$$$$  Also saw a couple of cardinals that were pretty nice. They only have a couple of floor plans so don' t know what we would get if we get another one. I doubt we will ever get a different one. Yes our mail comes right to the campground. Last year we had to use General Delivery. That was a pain as  you could only get it in the afternoon between 1 and 4 I think. When we move at the end of the month we will have a  different city. Will be in Mission which is not all that far from here. I think tomorrow we are going to a bird and butterfly sanctuary That should be nice.  Guess that's about it for tonight  Later all Ron Thelma and Eli

A great day

Today we went to a lunch with a bunch of FCRV Winter Texas. We paid dues so now are official I guess. This place had pizza and Mexican food. Was really good. They had a guy from the sugar cane owners group who showed a video of how it is planted and processed. We had seen it a couple of weeks ago at the visitors center. He answered questions at the end which gave more insight to it. Saw some folks that we have not seen since July at campvention. Not sure what we are doing tomorrow. Oh we went to Walgreen's later in the afternoon. We got our first batch of mail. Gary sent it on Sat so thought it got here pretty quick. Not sure how they send it. Maybe fly it in?Well guess that's about it for tonight  Was up to about 80 today but later in the week it is going to get down to 39 a couple of nights. It really goes up and down here  Later Ron Thelma and Eli

Questions answered

The IH unit is a cotton picker. Two row. I suppose now days they are bigger than that It is a 1947. Linda Not sure how far the church will be when we move. I don't think all that far. There isn't to many lcms down here in this area. It is kinda funny as they have in there bulletin that they rely on the Winter Texans to keep the church going in the summer. That was the case last year at Gulf Shores. I would rather give this church some extra money than that one as this one is more friendly and a better preacher. I will have to check my mapping program and see how far it is from Mission. Today we went to Walmart and got some food and some money. I use my debit card and then get cash back. That works really great. If a place will take a debit card I use it to pay the bill. Less cash. Tomorrow we go out for Pizza with a bunch of FCRV people down here. Should be a good time. We have not seen some of them since the campvention last summer. I need to take my camera along and get some pictures. Guess that's about it for tonight  Later all Ron Thelma and Eli

Breakfast out

This morning we  decided to eat out or I did. Since I usually fix breakfast. We had seen this restaurant just down the road. Called Martha's. They always had a bunch of cars and trucks there. Wo we went Boy was it good. People were coming and leaving the whole time we were there. I had western omelet and Thelma had ham and cheese.  We talked to a couple at the table next to us and they were from Canada. As they went to pay the bill another couple sat down. Asked where they were from . Canada too so as the other couple went to leave I said these people are from Canada too. They came over and started talking to them Come to find out the one gal new the other gals sister . What a small world. There was a couple there where he was from Elkhart. We then went from there to the produce flea market. Got some oranges and grapefruit. When we got home I noticed that the wheels on the truck looked different. Check closer and someone stole my hubcaps. Not sure when it happened. It could have happened here or last night at church. It was sprinkling when we got out and was dark so wouldn't have noticed it then. Guess I will wait till we get back to replace them. Need to find a junk yard and see what they want for them. Well guess that's about it for tonight. Going to put a couple of pictures on here at the end .  Later all Ron Thelma and Eli

Power anyone

Today we lost our power about 3:00 pm We atre some chicken drumsticks that Thelma fixed on the stove. We went to church at 4:30. Got back home about 6:30 and it was back on but think it had only been on for just a bit. I don't know what the problem is with this power stuff. But it is just not here. They have trouble all over this area. I talked to a lady here that had been to a walmart and they lost power so sent the employees home. I don't know what they would do when it came back on. This pastor at this church we have been going to is really good. He stands at the front and preaches  All he had was the bulletin with the old testament reading. He also uses a lot of gestures. We will come here after we move to Mission. It is raining right now It has been sprinkling most of the day. We have went around to some of the campgrounds in this area looking to see what they have and how much. I figure we will be back down here in a couple of years. Think the retiree rally will be moved between here and someplace more east. Maybe Rayne La. That would make it good for those in Fl and those here in TX. Can't think of much else. Looks like tomorrow we won't do much of anything as it is supposed to rain about all day. Oh the power company is AEP Texas. They have good trucks though  IHs Well will close for tonight For all you people and doggies up north stay warm  Hugs to you all Ron Thelma and Eli the camping dog

RV show

This morning we took of for Mercedes and rgv livestock show grounds for a RV show. Had quite a few trailers and lots of vendors. Thelma bought some new covers for our outside steps. The ones we have are really getting worn. These are velcrowed when you put them on. They don't have the springs like our old ones. You can keep moving them around when they start to wear. We also got some small strips that go on the ends of each one and make it two toned. I will take pictures after I get them installed. They also had some old farm machinery there with old tractors. I need to upload them on the computer and then put some on the blog. Tomorrow we are just gonna hang out here and then go to church at 5. The reason I hooked up the truck is there is a 12 volt line that goes from the socket on the truck to the trailer. So if your trailer battery ever goes dead you can put some juice in it that way. It is slow. Saw a couple of Cardinal trailers that were really nice. Guess that's it for tonight. Later Ron Thelma and Eli

Update

Thought I would update. The power came back on about 7:45. Whew. Sure glad to have it back  Later   Ron Thelma and Eli

No power

I am sitting in the trucks with it running trying to do a blog. We went for lunch with some friends and when we got back this afternoon we had no power. The transformer down the road just a bit burnt up. Also the pole so they are putting a new Pole and transformer in . Said we would not have power until 10. Will be a long night. We went to a Chinese buffet for lunch Then had a nice visit at their mh. We went to a drive in for supper as we couldn't cook what we wanted.  Guess thats about it for tonight. I have the trailer plugged into the truck to charge up the trailer battery. Need it to keep the furnace running. Not all that warm here. Boy is it dark around here. We have a night light right behind us It is out so it is dark. Guess that's about from here. Hope it comes on earlier than they say. Wish I had my little generator here. At least we could watch TVs . Well later all Ron Thelma and Eli

Another cool day

Today we went to the winter Texan expo. Not as big as we expected. At least it was warm inside. Got some literature and a few freebies. You can tell the economy is not like it used to be. They had some good entertainment. One guy we heard at the flea market last Sunday was there. Go to www.lynndvorak.com He said he was from Poland. He is really good.  We came home for a while and then went to Logan's roadhouse for supper Got the 14.99 thing for two I had a 22 oz bear and Thelma had decaf. That is about it for today. Oh Gary got a different job Up at pierston. Got a raise. He will be Sr Quality Engineer. Think that is what he said. Will have about 4 or 5 under him. That is what he was looking for. The company is contch castings a division of revstone industries.  Guess that's it for tonight later all Ron Thelma and Eli

Cool Day

What a difference from one day to the next yesterday was 80 and today a high of 46. Low tonight probably in the high 30s. Whats up with that. This afternoon we went to a H E B grocery. Got a few things that we needed. Then forgot the milk. We also went to Walgreen's to get eggs They had them for 99 cents. Guess what they were sold out. Will get more on Thurs. Hope they aren't out by the time we get there. We are going out to lunch with some friends. so will see if we can work it in. Tomorrow we are going to the Winter Texan expo. At least I hope it is warm inside. It is to be cool for the next three days. Then warm up for a few days and then a little cool down again. At least we don't have snow to shovel. If this is all that we have it will be okay.  Guess that's about it for tonight.   Later all Ron Thelma and Eli

Lazy Day

Today we stayed around the campground. Thelma did 3 loads of laundry this afternoon. I finally got the grill out and did some bacon and cheese pub burgers. They were good. Really big. Thelma could hardly eat all of hers. We had Grillin beans and chips. I did some stuff on the computer while she did the laundry. After supper we drove down the road a little ways to get some ice. Have to keep the beer and pop cold. Maybe tomorrow we are going to the health fair expo thing. It is going to be warmer tomorrow than Wed. We have plans for Thurs to eat out with some friend from FCRV. We also got an email from another friend to come over to where they are staying. We will probably do that next week Or maybe on the weekend. Think Fri we will go to the RV show. The weather here has been nice. Cools off some in the evening. The next 3 days are gonna be below normal for temps according to the weather guy. Then it will warm up again. We will be doing a dolphin cruise the first part of Feb. Part of the FCRV thing. We had intended to do one so this will be the opportunity. Guess that's about it from here. Later all

Flea Market day

This morning Thelma and I took off to the flea market right down the road a bit. We got a few things. They had a fellow there playing the keyboard and he was good. I bought a c/d of his. Should have got the other one two Maybe next time. Across the road from the one is another set of buildings Here is where a lot of the produce is sold. We bought some oranges and tomatoes. Also had strawberry sundae. That was good. Tonight at the campground they had ice cream for 50 a dip. Not to bad a price. We aren't sure how far the church will be when we move to mission. If it isn't too far we will got there. Otherwise will have to find another one I guess. Well I guess that's about it for tonight. I has cooled down to 59 tonight Was 78 this afternoon. Makes good sleeping weather. Later all Ron Thelma and Eli

A great day

Today we went and drove around the area . We went to a RV supply place and I bought a couple of items Then went  to a Montana dealer to see about light bulbs. They didn't have them Had to order from Montana. Then made a stop at camping world. Didn't get any thing there. Since we were in Mission we drove over to where we will camp in Feb. Meet the lady that is the manager. She used to run Johnny Appleseed in Ft Wayne. Then we started back Stopped at whataburger for lunch.. Good. Then got back to trailer. I took a shower and then we left for church. Real good service. Meet a nice couple from Mo. The man took me over to meet the pastor. Had a good chat with him. Not sure we will go to this church when we move to mission. Depends on how far it is Might have to look for another one. If there is one. Got back and called Gary talked to him for a bit. We have some mail so he will send it next weekend. He doesn't have time to do it during the week as he gets home so late. Well guess that's about it for tonight. Another nice day

Today we went the neighbor lady to a jam session. It was at a campground just down the road. Nice campground. Not to expensive either. We had lunch there and then listened to the people jam. It was really neat to hear all the people sing and play their instruments. It lasted about 2 hrs or a little more. When we got back Thelma did a couple of loads of laundry It was a really nice day. Got up to the mid 70;s It is 68 right now. Think it showed snowing in Fort Wayne. They are predicting some rain here next week. They need it It is so dry. Think tomorrow we are going to a Montana dealer not too far away to get a light bulb for the trailer. It is a 12 volt one Also need a nut to hold the shade on. Lost it on the way. We have looked all over for it and haven't found it yet. They are having a RV show here next week at the next little town. We will go see it  Can;t afford one of the new ones but like to look. Guess that's about it for tonight  Oh We went to a Shoneys to eat tonight I had the seafood bar and Thelma had a sirloin steak Ground that is. Eli will have the leftovers. I also had a little piece of chicken that we brought home. Later  Ron Thelma and Spoiled little Eli

Great day

Today we went to a pizza place with a few other campers from here. We had a great time visiting. While there I asked about different places since these people have been here a few years. The one lady offered to show us where some of the places were. We went to a visitors center and watched a couple of videos. One was on sugar cane farming and the other was on birds and other wildlife. We want to go to a wildlife place. Will probably wait till we are at the Mission campground as it is closer to the wildlife  center. We also went to a Walmart. Got only a couple of things. Needed some Ice for the cooler. Also found a Lutheran church in the next little town. They have a Saturday night service. That's the way we like it. Mo Synod. We shall see how friendly they are. According to their website they have a lot of Winter Texans at that church. Tomorrow we are going to another campground and eat lunch and listen to a jam session. They have a lot of them down here. Well I guess that's about it for tonight  Later all Ron Thelma and Eli

We made it

We finally got to the valley. This campground is not too bad. Not what we wanted. We are at rollin homes in Donna. We were going to one Bob Gurney recomended. That was rollin homes except it is in Mission, Tx. When I got online and check the Donna one came up. I couldn't remember where
Bob said it was so made a reservation here. We are only staying here a month and then moving to the one in Mission. We had a pretty good drive today. Sure not much to see. Scrub trees along the road and cattle a lot of places. We got here pretty early this afternoon. Got all set up. Not sure if we will put the awning out or not. Will wait a couple of days to see how windy it gets here. We will sleep in in the morning. Have been waiting for that. Not sure what we will do tomorrow. I need to get a bottle tank filled so will probably do that  Then maybe drive around and see what is here Guess that's about it for tonight  Later all Oh its' 68 here Was 72 when we got here. Victoria, Tx

We are in a nice campground for the night  Called the lazy longhorn RV park. Got here about 12:30 The work camper came and cut off some branches so I could get in the spot. The trees are nice but sometimes get in the way. They had popcorn and soda at 300 so we went up and got some Thelma did some laundry. Then came back and ate supper and at 6 they had Ice Cream for 50 cents a dip. That was some good desert. I took a shower when we got back Thelma took hers when we got here. Tomorrow we will get to Donna About 200 miles I think. Will be glad to get there. Hope the people there are as friendly as they are at this campground. Really nice folks Well that's about it for tonight Later  Ron Thelma and Eli

La Grange Tx

We are at the Colorado Landing Campground in La Grange. We are here for only one night. Tomorrow we are only traveling about 150 Miles and then on Monday we will do about 200 to get to Donna. We are going to sleep in in the morning. We are both pretty tired. The campground we  are going to has a hot tub Might try that out. Today was just driving. If I was rich I would hire somebody to drive for me. We stopped a McDonalds this morning for breakfast It was close to where we camped last night. Then stopped a Subway along the road and also got fuel for the truck. This was just a little town. Subs were good. Hey Bob can you find out where Don is going If he is close we will look them up. Don't know if Pat and Jerry are going to Texas or not. Well guess thats about it for tonight  Tomorrow is another On the road again day
